A web guiding system is a feedback loop. The sensor detects web position, the controller compares that position with the target, and the actuator moves the frame to correct the web path.
The edge sensor
The sensor provides the position signal. Infrared sensors fit many opaque webs. Ultrasonic sensors are useful for transparent or low-contrast webs. CCD sensors are selected when printed lines, color edges or visual marks must be tracked.
The web guide controller
The controller reads the sensor signal, displays correction status and drives the actuator. Controller selection depends on guiding mode, sensor compatibility, operator interface, panel space, remote I/O needs and machine integration requirements.
The actuator and frame
The actuator converts the controller command into movement. The guiding frame applies this movement to the web path. Stroke, thrust and frame structure must fit web width, roll weight, friction, correction geometry and machine speed.
What to check before buying components separately
Separate components give flexibility, but signal compatibility, actuator capacity and mechanical structure must be checked together. A strong controller cannot compensate for a sensor that cannot see the material edge or an actuator that cannot move the frame under load.

FAQ
Can any sensor work with any controller?
No. Sensor signal type and controller interface must be compatible.
What happens if actuator thrust is too low?
The correction may become slow, unstable or unable to move the frame under load.
What should be checked for OEM integration?
Check controller mounting, sensor cable routing, actuator force, correction stroke, power supply and whether the machine PLC needs remote signals.
