Dust on film, paper or label stock may be caused by static attraction, surface contamination, cutting dust or process debris. Static control and web cleaning solve related but different problems.

What static control does

Static control reduces or manages electrostatic charge. It helps when charged materials attract dust, stick together, shock operators, affect stacking or create handling problems near unwind, printing, slitting or rewind sections.

What web cleaning does

Web cleaning removes particles from the material surface. It may use contact cleaning, vacuum, air, brushes or other cleaning methods depending on line speed, web width, material sensitivity and contamination type.

When both may be needed

If static attracts dust and the dust is already on the web, static control alone may not remove existing contamination. A line may need static elimination before or after a cleaning point depending on where charge is generated.

How to decide what to review first

If particles return quickly after cleaning, check static. If static is low but contamination remains, review the cleaning method and dust source. If shocks, sticking or poor stacking occur, static control should be reviewed even if web cleaning is also planned.

RFQ information to prepare

  • Machine type and material
  • Web width and line speed
  • Dust source, static symptom or defect location
  • Installation position and available space
  • Photos, drawings or defect samples if available

FAQ

Can static elimination replace web cleaning?

No. Static elimination reduces charge. It does not physically remove all existing particles from the material surface.

Can web cleaning replace static control?

Not when static keeps attracting dust after cleaning. Static should be reviewed when particles return quickly.

What should I check first?

Check whether charge is present at the defect point and whether contamination comes from upstream cutting, environment or material handling.
